The lower and upper school libraries are a central focus for teaching and learning in the curriculum. They provide printed and ICT resources to meet the learning and recreational needs of the whole school community. The development of expertise and independence in information skills, support for literacy and the creation of opportunities for student responsibilities are central to the libraries’ role.
Halewood College seeks to:
- provide a comprehensive range of quality library resources and services to support
the curriculum at all levels for students of all ages, abilities and needs- teach the skills students need to use information and libraries with confidence and
independence- promote reading and literacy across the curriculum
- organise materials logically and clearly in line with standard library practice
- support the development of ICT skills in students and staff
- provide a welcoming and stimulating environment conducive to study and learning
- give opportunities outside school hours for supervised homework and study for all
students
Parents can help students by encouraging them to use the school libraries to:
- make use of the supervised homework facilities provided.
- borrow and read books, magazines and newspapers and talk about what they have enjoyed.
- develop their ICT skills with the help of staff.
- learn to treat books and ICT resources with respect, to return what has been borrowed
promptly and by conforming to the library code of conduct and the College internet use policy.
